Michelle Obama To Host Screening Of ‘Hidden Figures’
Michelle Obama is making sure that moviegoers in Washington, D.C. witness a healthy dose of black girl magic for the holidays. Per a statement on the White House website, the First Lady will be hosting a screening of the Fox 2000 film, Hidden Figures, at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. on Thursday, Dec. 15.

The event will “highlight the stories of Americans who have made significant contributions in the history of space flight, space science, and innovation.” The biographical film is based on the careers of NASA’s Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, and stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae.
First Lady Obama will also be giving remarks during the event, and the films leading ladies, as well as co-star Kevin Costner, soundtrack composer and producer Pharrell Williams and the real Mary Jackson (age 97), will be in attendance.
Hidden Figures has been garnering praise from critics, and recently, the cast was nominated for a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, while Octavia Spencer was nominated for both a SAG Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture.

Hidden Figures will hit theaters on Dec. 25 for a limited release, before opening nationwide on Jan. 6, 2017.
