Michelle Obama Wrote Yara Shahidi’s College Recommendation
Michelle Obama’s awesome factor continues to rise even after leaving the White House, and now Mrs. O has merited an abundance of high fives after it was revealed she wrote a college letter of recommendation for Black-ish star Yara Shahidi. The high school senior applied to four colleges including Harvard and was fortunate enough to receive a little help from the former First Lady. During an interview with W magazine the 17-year-old actress did nothing but praise Obama for her generosity.

“She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say,” Shahidi said. Similar to Malia Obama, Yara says she too will take a gap year before beginning her college career.
“I know when Malia Obama announced [she was deferring], she got a lot of slack, but I feel like what’s interesting is I know so many people that are deferring. It’s more than to just roam around or just sit down and stare at a wall, but it will also give me an opportunity to work,” she told People last October. “I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path.”

It’s being reported that whatever college Yara chooses to attend, she will double major in African-American studies and sociology.
