Miko Grimes: You're a Slave When You're a College Athlete

In another interesting interview, Miko Grimes talks about some of the alleged dirty tactics the NFL uses to cut players without any medical payouts. Grimes has advocated for better treatment of NFL athletes throughout the years, and though some may assume that players stayed distant from her, she tells VladTV that it’s quite the opposite. “They beeline to me and dap me up and say ‘You’re the realest f****** wife I’ve ever met. I hope my wife is like you,'” she said.

While having some of the closest relationships with the athletes, they’ve confided in her and revealed some of the messy backend deals they’ve encountered. One, in particular, Grimes says, is how injured athletes are often recorded getting brought back to health on the field to help the NFL with legalities later. “Once they have you on film performing football acts, they can cut you, and they don’t have to give you a medical contract.” She explained, “When you’re injured, they can not cut you— they can, but they have to give you like a package, like a severance package for an injury and it’s a lot of money. But, if you’re healthy they can give you a f****** donut.”

Further into the interview, Grimes gives her take on why she feels colleges are exploiting Black males and talks on why she feels they won’t allow athletes in sports dominated by black men—such as Basketball and Football—from going pro straight out of high school; unlike other sports.
