From Chicago and spreading throughout the whole world, BJ The Chicago Kid is putting his name out there as one of the most talented R&B singers in the game. Appearing on both Jill Scott and Dr. Dre’s No. 1 albums this year and wrapping up his own album “In My Mind” to release later this year, BJ takes some time out of his busy schedule to hang out on Sway in the Morning.
Even though he currently resides in LA, BJ The Chicago Kid will always rep for the city of Chicago. Keeping his midwest mentality about him, BJ speaks on how he keeps a low profile and stays out of trouble on the West Coast. His secret? Doing everything in moderation and sticking with the right people.
Putting the finishing touches on his album we hear BJ speak on making fresh music that doesn’t sound like what other people are currently doing. When he’s not busy with music, BJ puts in time as an uncle. He tells us about his nieces and watching over their social media use so they steer clear of controversy.
Appearing on what might be 2015’s most coveted releases, Dr. Dre’s “Compton,” BJ speaks candidly about working with the N.W.A. legend. From being put on the spot quick and being challenged in a constructive way, BJ reveals some key things that Dre told him that will help him evolve into a better musician.
“He’s [Dr. Dre] shown me some of the best days of my life”
To wrap up his time in the studio, BJ plays Stump The Genius, guessing who sung some classic Chicago tracks and also sings his collaboration with Chance The Rapper and Buddy, “Church,” live.
