DeJ Loaf’s Debut Album “Liberated” Is 90% Complete
DeJ Loaf is going for a “bigger” sound with her new material.
DeJ Loaf has announced debut album Liberated. The project’s title was revealed in an interview with The Fader, in which DeJ revealed some of the collaborators she’ll be working with to create a “bigger” sound for her first official album. Producer Detail (“Drunk In Love,” “Worst Behaviour,” etc.), Fort Worth, Texas-raised songwriter Leon Bridges, and pop-leaning producer Ricky Reed will all contribute to the project.
While DeJ plans to widen her range with the new material, she’s adamant that this is not her going “pop”. “I’m hoping people understand that this isn’t fake, or don’t think I’m just doing this because I’m being forced,” she tells Fader. “I’ve always wanted to make bigger music. But I never could go all the way ’cause I didn’t have the resources, in terms of working with Grammy Award-winning producers, bigger studios, a bigger sound. I’ve always had it in me, but my voice is developed now.”
The Detroit rapper’s manager confirmed to Fader that the album is 90% complete, though it is still without a release date.
Listen to DeJ’s new record “Hold It Down,” released Saturday. Her 2016 mixtape All Jokes Aside can be streamed and downloaded here.
