Dhoruba Bin Wahad spoke exclusively to VladTV about being wrongly charged with assault in the first degree for the drive-by shooting of two police officers in 1971. The officers were wounded in the incident, but neither were killed.
Dhoruba was arrested and charged with the crime after a 45 caliber machine gun was found at a club the police raided. He explained that police decided to pin the incident on him after finding the gun and claiming that ballistics matched up with the weapon used in the police shooting and the gun at the club.
Three trials later, Dhoruba was sentenced to 25 years to life for the crime, which he knew he didn’t commit. He spent 19 years in jail before he was acquitted when it was revealed that counterintelligence files from the FBI were found on Bin Wahad and the Black Panthers, proving that the agency was deliberately trying to take down the Panthers. The prosecution in the case withheld this information during Dhoruba’s case so that they could put him away.
