Dr. Umar Johnson shared his thoughts on a variety of topics during a recent sit-down with VladTV, including how prisons are continuing slavery today, Colin Kaepernick’s protest, and Jay Z’s ability to start change today.
Dr. Johnson started by sharing his thoughts on the prison system and how chain gangs still exist in certain southern states. He added that the prisoners pick cotton in the fields while someone guards them with a gun, just like when slavery was legal.
Moving along, Dr. Umar Johnson shared that he loves Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem, as he said that the anthem to black people is like asking Jewish people to stand for the Nazi anthem. Dr. Johnson added that we couldn’t expect all athletes to follow Kaepernick’s protest, as he points out they’re not all superstars like the 49ers star, but he added that it would take “mass direct action” for it to start enacting change.
