During a 2013 interview with VladTV, Mannie Fresh explained how New Orleans hip hop culture has been welcoming and supportive of the gay community for a long while. “It’s just a flavorful city. We just, you know–we embrace everything. We, not trippin’.” He went into detail on many gay artists making bounce music and his thoughts on the term “sissy bounce.”
