Kap G on Almost Losing Role in ‘Dope’ Because He Didn’t Look Like a Cholo

With no acting experience and movie agent, rapper Kap G, tells VladTV that one call from Pharrell and an iPhone audition is what it took for him to land his role on Dope. After submitting his part, he says the director didn’t think he was a good fit for the role because he didn’t fit the “Mexican gangster” portrayal they wanted. “Shoutout to Rick, he didn’t want me to play the part. He wanted a more Cholo—with the bald head—and I don’t really look like that.” He explained it was Pharell that fought for him, which ultimately landed him on the big screen.

Further into the interview, Kap G talks about collaborating with Pharrell, Chis Brown, and the Migos and tells us why he feels L.A. can change a person.
