Karyn Parsons stopped by VladTV to discuss a bevy of topics. In this clip she details the early days of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. She talks about working as a hostess during the time of the pilot being shot and explains how Will Smith didn’t have much acting experience prior to the show. Parsons also revealed how Will was seen as just a rapper at the time so him getting his own TV show was out of the ordinary. As for the entire cast, Parsons details how close knit the bunch was and continues to be. She got emotional when discussing the late James Avery, affectionately known as “Uncle Phil”, and talked about how influential he was in raising her awareness of Black history. She went on to say that the mission of her nonprofit organization, Sweet Blackberry Foundation, is a byproduct of her relationship with Avery. Parsons touched on lighter topics as well, such as the development of the “Carlton Dance”, and the Hilary Banks character.
