LeBron James Jr. is trying to make a name for himself on the AAU circuit right now. But truthfully, it’s going to be pretty hard for him to truly make a name for himself due to the fact that he’s named after one of the best basketball players of all time. No matter how good he ultimately becomes—and if his recent highlight reels are any indication, he’s got a chance to be really good—he’s always going to be LeBron James’ son.

According to LeBron, though, LBJ Jr. is already doing what he can to step out of his famous father’s shadow. In his new Sports Illustrated cover story, LeBron talks about how his son is trying to go about doing it.

“He doesn’t want people to know who he is,” LeBron says. “He hates when they ask him for pictures and autographs. He won’t even wear my number.”

It’s obviously going to be incredibly difficult for LBJ Jr. to stay out of the spotlight when he’s LeBron’s oldest child. But it’s kind of nice to hear that he’s trying to do his own thing on the court and not buying into whatever hype has already been generated around him.
