While discussing the possibility of Eddie Murphy returning to stand-up, Luenell points out, “With comedy, you’re only as good as your last show.” She goes on to explain that doing stand-up “is a muscle that you have to exercise.” Respect is then given to Eddie Murphy because he’s already attained a pinnacle of stand-up greatness which allowed his smooth transition to film.
Luenell soon reveals that the inherent grind and hustle of stand-up may no longer appeal to Eddie as he has already accomplished and sustained financial wealth. She claims, “Once you cross into a certain category you don’t have to grind and hustle that hard anymore. You can make way more money doing a film for three-quarters of a million dollars than you will doing stand-up.”
Soon she insists, “Unless it’s really in you to do comedy, which if it were then you would have never stopped, then you just don’t do it anymore.” This statement then segues into her declaration that if Eddie Murphy decided to make a return, then “He would really have to come back with something explosive.”
