Michael Jordan Wins Lawsuit Against Chinese Sportswear Company Qiaodan Sports
MJ wins the rights to his own name in China.
Michael Jordan has finally won his lawsuit against Chinese sportswear company Qiaodan, the company that he originally filed suit against in 2012. Lower courts originally ruled in favor of Qiaodan but MJ took it to the Supreme Court.
China’s highest court ruled in favor of MJ today, revoking the rights of Qiaodan Sports Co. to use Jordan’s last name written in Chinese characters. Additionally, Qiaodan Sports will relinquish its trademark registrations of the Chinese version of “Jordan” which is Qiaodan.
The company not only used the Chinese version of Jordan’s name but also featured a silhouette of a basketball player leaping through the air that was a direct ripoff of Air Jordan.
