Besides “Brenda’s Got a Baby” from his debut studio album “2Pacalypse Now,” his followup “Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z…” contained hits that put ‘Pac on a level rarely matched by other artists of the time. After the success of his second album, Tupac went on to collaborate with Mopreme and other members of Thug Life on the crew’s first and only collective, “Thug Life: Volume 1.” According to Mopreme, it took them about a year to complete, with him acting as the overseer on the project. “The first run of the album they were saying was too hard, so I had to tone it down,” he recalls in regards to the label execs involved.

Press play to find out which track of Pac’s Mopreme Shakur feels upcoming artists should listen to as a guide for their songwriting. “That’s a good example of a full, well-written song,” he tells us. “They’re not giving people record deals for freestyling. They’re giving songwriters deals.”
