In this clip, Dr. Wesley Muhammad discussed the lasting legacy of Malcolm X in the context of the Nation of Islam. The history of the NOI and Malcolm X had many ups and downs, but Muhammad made it clear that the NOI still reveres “Brother Malcolm.” However, Dr. Wesley Muhammad didn’t paint a rosy picture of Malcolm X stating that the NOI objectively looks at the man for his good and his errors. He also said that the tragic assassination of Malcolm falls into the hands of the NOI but most importantly the government. Muhammad added that Malcolm brought certain things upon himself because of his violation of what he dubs “Black-God Protocol.” Nevertheless, Muhammad asserted that Malcolm X is someone to learn from and a figure members in the Nation of Islam continue to learn from and teach through.
