Former Fugees member Pras stopped by VladTV to talk about what is was like creating his first solo album after the splitting with the Fugees, how Ol’ Dirty Bastard winded up on his single “Ghetto Superstar”, and much more.
In regards to his first solo album, Pras let us know his primary goal was to create, coming off of a huge roller coaster with The Fugees Pras made it a point not to get distracted, and continue to make good music. His album, “Ghetto Superstar” had a hit single entitled “Ghetto Superstar,” featuring Mya, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. “It was one of those situations where he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, heard the beat, fell in love with it, and was like let me hop on it… he walked in my session by mistake,” Pras explained. “I don’t know if he was drunk, but I know he didn’t know the state he was in… I was in California, but he thought he was in New York.” “The music is looped in the background, and he’s like yo what’s that?… S**t’s hot I need to get on that.” Pras planned on erasing it, but he kept it because it came out hot. It only took one take for ODB to lay down his verse.
Pras talked about what it was like to get a number 1 record on his own. “It was like going to work… Your success you knew what it was, there was no theatrics, no illusion.. sitting back, reflecting years later it’s like wow, okay.”
