Renowned saxophonist Kenneth Whalum dropped by Sway In The Morning to talk about his journey through music and latest project Broken Land.

The Tennessee-native originated from a church background with a very musical family. Sway joked about the riff that secular music could make in a religious household, but Whalum confirmed that his family was always supportive of his musical endeavors.

Fast-forward into his recent years, he’s been able to contribute to some of the most recognizable sounds with the biggest names in the industry. His work can be heard on Jay Z’s “Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)…”, Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night and more.

Now he’s released his second studio album Broken Land and is switching up his style a bit. This time he’s added his vocals to the mix. He explained that words became the only way he could tell his story.

“You haven’t seen what my eyes have seen but you can feel how I feel.”

Check out the interviews below to hear about his times with Diddy, Bruno Mars, and hear his freestyle vocals.
