In this clip, TaySav breaks down how he started rapping the year after his brother’s death. The track that made waves for TaySav was the song dedicated to his brother – “Letter to Pappy.” He talked about sounding like his brother and how the streets saw him as a younger version. TaySav also gave the backstory to his name which he said began before he actually started rapping. His name was simply “Tay” or “TayDaProducer” before a friend of his, currently incarcerated, gave him the name “Tay Savage.” TaySav said he shortened it to deflect from any preconceived notions some people may have when they hear “savage.” He said he wanted something to reflect him as an individual.
TaySav discussed the street politics of Chicago and the nature of collaborations and who from Chicago he’s worked with thus far. TaySav also spoke on some earlier VladTV interviews from Chicago artists and his reaction to what was said during them.
