Tory Lanez is almost ready for his debut album, after signing to Interscope in the last year, and breaking the surface with his hit single “Say It,” which he quickly followed by another hit-in-the-making, “L.A. Confidential.” During our interview in Austin, Texas, Tory speaks on the latter record, his debut album, his go-to producer who helped him find success (Play Picasso), making it without a co-sign, and much more.
After speaking on his mixtape discography, and specifically, the project that jump-started his career, Conflicts of My Soul, Tory goes on to talk about the not-oft-seen Play Picasso. “Play Picasso is a Cuban dude, with long-ass hair, and he’s from Miami,” Tory reveals. “He’s actually a myth, nobody actually seen Play Picasso, he has no pictures on the internet,” he says, “the thing about it is, he has so many placements on other artists’ albums, and it’s like we just gotta wait for the albums to come out in that kinda situation. But me and Play have just had such a camaraderie, that we ride with each other and we make the best music together, so a lot of the stuff that you hear from him comes from me.”
Tory ends the interview with some quick words about a collaboration he and ASAP Ferg cooked up while at SXSW. “We just worked on a crazy record last night. Might throw it out on a Fargo Friday or Wavy Wednesday or something like that. It’ll be dope though,” he says.
