Soulja Boy Takes Plea Deal In Felony Gun Case, Avoids Jail

Soulja Boy has agreed to a plea deal that will keep him from doing up to four years behind bars on felony weapons possession charges. The 26-year-old rapper pleaded no contest and was sentenced to five years probation in addition to being ordered to stay away from real and fake guns, TMZ reports.

The deal, which also includes 240 hours of community labor and requires Soulja Boy to get permission to travel for work, comes after he originally pleaded not guilty to felony weapons possession.

Soul Boy —whose birth name is DeAndre Way — was arrested in December, around the same time that his probation from a 2014 weapons conviction was scheduled to end. Authorities recovered a Mini Draco AR-IS, and a .45 caliber Glock, at his Southern California home after receiving an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip that he was threatening people online.

The Atlanta native was hit with felony charges for weapons possession, and possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon. The Los Angeles D.A.’s office also charged him with a misdemeanor count of receiving a gun that was reportedly stolen from a cop car.
