With production from Mike Will Made It, Sounwave, 9th Wonder and Zacari, DAMN. takes on a trip through Kendrick’s life in a series of feelings and themes like “DNA,” PRIDE,” “LUST” and more tracks we haven’t fully digested yet.

As predicted, features include Rihanna, U2 and perhaps Little Simz, who can possibly be heard on “LUST.” Just before its release, LeBron James previewed the album on his Instagram stories Thursday (April 13). While LeBron highlighted the jam worthy “DNA,” the album does hit other channels of life.

Speaking with the New York Times before the album’s release, Kendrick assured that DAMN. would address faith and family. “Been thinking about my little brothers. One little brother, he bigger than me, he’s 22. Another brother, he just turned 11. Family,” he said. “I think now, how wayward things have gone within the past few months, my focus is ultimately going back to my community and the other communities around the world where they’re doing the groundwork. To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore.”

Kendrick’s convos with God were previously heard between his debut album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City and TPAB, but the rapper takes things in a different direction with DAMN.  “We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God,” he said. “Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”
