Tidal Launches ’17,’ A Visual Protest EP Fighting For Social Justice
Tidal has teamed up with social justice organization, Sankofa.org, to premiere 17, a visual EP inspired by victims of police brutality and gun violence.
The project made its exclusive premiere on Tidal on Friday (Feb. 17), and featured Ty Dolla $ign, Big TC, Raphael Saadiq, Mali Music and Elijah Blake on its four tracks, BET reports.

17, directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz follows Jacobi Nelson, and his dreadful experience with racial bias and police violence. Along with its release, Sankofa and Tidal have launched their social campaign powered by the hashtag #IAM17, which encourages people to share and post their own stories when they were 17.
The project seems to be a prelude to Sankofa’s forthcoming album being pushed by its new recording label. The underlying mission of the organization founded in 2013 by Harry Belafonte seeks to connect influential artists and grassroots leaders to form a coalition against injustice and the abuse of human rights.

Jay Z has backed social movements in many ways, and now he teams up with Sankofa which produces “Many Rivers To Cross,” a music/art festival that featured John Legend, Maxwell and many more.
