VH1 is rebranding the popular hip-hop-themed TV film The Breaks, starring Mack Wilds, into an official series. The network just dropped the trailer for the first season online, and it has some new faces not featured in the film, including T.I. and Teyana Taylor.

Tip, who continues to add to his acting resume, will play the role of high-powered attorney Paul Anders. His character will have the duty of defending Woody Harris’ character Barry Fouray after he gets in a jam. Taylor plays the role of an aspiring MC.

They join a cast that already features Method Man, Afton Willamson, Antoine Harris, David Call, Evan Handler, Melonie Diaz, Sinqua Walls and Ali Ahn.

Written and directed by Seith Mann, the show was inspired by journalist Dan Charnas’ book The Big Payback and follows the lives of aspiring hip-hop artists and execs as they try to make their mark on the industry in 1990.

XXL spoke with Wilds last year about the show getting a second shot. “That’s what we started to aim for when it came to putting the rest of it together,” he said. “It was just dope to see that we have an opportunity to do something. We couldn’t lose a moment of it so we did everything that we could to make sure VH1 has all the ammunition to see that we need to come back.”

Season one airs on Feb. 20.
