White Texas Woman Reportedly Lied About Being Raped By Three Black Men

Earlier this month, an 18-year-old white woman from Denison, Texas thought it was okay to fabricate a tall tale about allegedly being kidnapped and raped by three black men.

On a Wednesday evening (March 8), Breana Harmon Talbott ran into a church sporting nothing but a bra, underwear and a shirt — with self-inflicted cuts and traces of her blood — screaming that she was gang-raped by the unidentified men, The Washington Post reports.

Talbott reportedly stated that the men were sporting ski masks while they subdued her. She told the witnesses that the men abused her in the woods in the back of the church, but after the incident no arrests were made.

Eventually, the story caught the eyes of radical right-wing Republicans, and continued to make seismic waves online concerning white supremacist sites. A few people decided to argue that the story would have received national attention if the race of all the alleged parties involved were the opposite. In a nutshell, if the suspects were white and the victim was black, the narrative of the story would be highly publicized.

Amid the criticism and blatant racism, the Denison Police Department revealed on Wednesday (March 23) that due to a lack of evidence, Talbott’s account was deemed a hoax.

“The so-called victim in the case confessed to the hoax last evening (March 21) to a member of the investigative team working the case,” a news release by Denison Police Chief Jay Burch reads. “Talbott’s hoax was also insulting to our community and especially offensive to the African-American community due to her description of the so-called suspects in her hoax.”

“Almost from the beginning, we had doubts in Breana Harmon Talbott’s story as the puzzle pieces just weren’t coming together,” the police chief continued. “We were unable to corroborate any of Talbott’s allegations that she had been abducted or sexually assaulted.”

According to Burch, Talbott’s confession was all a lie stemming from being abducted in an apartment complex to being abused. Reportedly, Talbott is in custody at Grayson County Correctional Facility in Sherman, Texas. Before this incident, she was engaged to Sam Hollingsworth, who is now distraught with Talbott’s lie.

“I was hurt. It was hard to take in whenever I found out about everything,” Hollingsworth told KDFW. “Somebody that I actually trusted and was planning on spending the rest of my life with could do something like this to me and everybody else in this community.”
