Over 20 years of helping some of the best artists out there, I’m here to share one of my most frequently asked questions: “How can you help me with music marketing?” Marketing your art is a passionate journey that you have to stay focused on. There is no exact or perfect way to take care of it. There are radio promoters; they’re expensive. There are publicists; they’re expensive. Because we work with so many independent artists here at HIP, we key in on the essential parts of your music marketing that you can attend to straight away to help build the buzz and your brand, and have more potential fans within your musical world.

We suggest three aspects of music marketing: music video promotion, social media marketing, and Spotify playlist pitching. These three aspects of music marketing are more important now than they have ever been. Music video promotion is all about getting your video in front of the maximum amount of potential viewers and listeners. With everyone listening with their eyes, music videos reign supreme. They don’t have to be an expensive undertaking: a polished, highly produced music video is always going to gain interest, but a low budget, thoughtfully prepared clip can do just as well.

Once you have your video completed, you have to think about all the amazing opportunities there are to get your new music video exposed. There are the TV channels: MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Spankin’ New; there’s BET, BET Jams, BET Gospel, BET Soul; Revolt, Music Choice, Fuse.

One aspect of television exposure that’s incredibly popular are the OTT channels, which get your music video seen via the internet to apps on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, Sling, or Apple TV. We’re pitching your video to all of these people, which means more exposure. Then there are the retail pools and content providers: videos seen in gyms, malls, department stores, Foot Lockers, and more.

Online publicity is our forte. Having a trusted team of professionals who have relationships with the decision-makers at websites and blogs helps independent artists significantly. We tell your story eloquently and passionately when pitching your video to them. Having your new music video on a terrific music website or blog is a huge win. Music video promotion also helps your search engine optimization substantially. When you release a new music video, make sure it is a first impression you’re going to be proud of.

Number two, social media marketing. How can you market music without social media? Social media might be a headache, but it is a surefire way to make a true, genuine human connection with fans worldwide. It’s not just Instagram: there are fans to be found on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter. It’s crucial to have a solid, sturdy presence on all of these online platforms.

Here at HIP, we don’t just tell you what to do; we teach you what to do. We’re going to work closely with you to optimize all of your social media sites, and talk about how using the correct hashtags can help you tremendously – and how using the wrong hashtags can hurt you. It’s important to have a social media marketing and support team during any promotional campaign because it allows you – the client – more time to focus on your art.

Number three, Spotify. Neglecting its importance would be doing our clients a disservice. Getting to these Spotify playlist curators is difficult. They are quite selective. Having a trusted team pitching your song to Spotify playlist curators is a huge help for your creative career. We secure spots on excellent user-curated playlists for our clients; while they’re on these playlists, their streams increase.

To recap: the radio folks will help you with radio – but that’ll take big-time money, and the publicists will help you with publicity – again, big-time money. Although our price of admission is not a small amount, it’s quite reasonable considering the return on investment we provide our clients. By bundling music video promotion, social media, marketing, and Spotify playlist pitching, you have a one-stop-shop of trusted pros, fighting the good fight and advocating on your behalf. This way, you, the artist, can attend to all the other spokes in your music marketing wheel and make only one call when it comes time to check in with your promotional team.

If you’d like to get more information, I encourage you to give me a call. I love when new clients reach out so we can talk about your project! You can call (732) 613-1779 or email [email protected]. Don’t delay – give me a call today!
