Feeling disillusioned by the department’s investigatory actions against his colleagues, Palomares decided to use his position for personal gain. Engaging with a contact involved in trafficking, he instructed his handpicked crew of officers to orchestrate a raid. Utilizing a captain’s car from the police academy to disguise their criminal activity, Palomares and his team successfully netted $1 million in cash and 15 kilos of valued at around $250,000. Of the illicit haul, Palomares retained $700,000 after paying his accomplices.
