Ruben Palomares opens up about the traumatic history of his family. Palomares was born in Mexico to a mother who had endured a two-year period of horror. She was kidnapped and taken advantaged of by a man who fathered her first child. Desperate for freedom, she escaped with her young son with the help of another man, who would later become Palomares’ biological father. However, the redemption she sought turned nightmarish once again, as this rescuer also forced himself on her, resulting in Ruben’s conception. Despite these early traumas, Palomares’ mother managed to flee to the United States, ultimately settling in South Central Los Angeles. Growing up in a tumultuous household with a stepfather who battled alcoholism and an environment plagued by gang activity, Ruben Palomares navigated a challenging path to adulthood.
