Skipp Townsend shared insights into his inadvertent initiation into the Bloods. Growing up in 1980s Los Angeles, Townsend recounted an incident that thrust him into the gang life despite not actively seeking affiliation. While returning from a football game, a group from the Rollin 60s Crips jumped him, inciting fear and anger. Townsend describes joining the Bloods as “by default,” a survival strategy rather than a proactive choice. Despite having familial ties and hanging out with the Bloods, Townsend hadn’t engaged in typical initiation rites. For him, consistently defending himself against Crips made him part of the Bloods community over time.
