There was a lot of racial tension in Boston back during the 1970’s. This sparked by forced busing! The city of Boston was generally much more dangerous than it is now. There was a real lot of working class neighborhoods, mostly known by their nicknames, Southie, Eastie, Dot, Rosie, Townie, The Bury, etc.
