Tony Yayo shared a story from his youth, revealing that despite his current persona, he attended Catholic school from first to eighth grade. Raised by Haitian parents who valued education, Yayo had a unique upbringing influenced by their decision to avoid sending him to public schools in his Southside Jamaica, Queens neighborhood. Yayo described his transition from a sheltered school environment to facing real dangers, particularly when he had to take the city bus in eighth grade. This new experience frequently put him in contact with students from notoriously tough schools, which he described as “gladiator schools.” The turning point came when he was robbed at gunpoint on one such bus ride.
