In this clip, Kia Jeffries recounts the some of the trials and tribulations that she faced during her relationship with former professional boxer Earnest Mateen and how it affected her public image and their ability to co-parent their son. From there, the R&B singer talks about the night when Mateen punched her for the first time, after he discovered she was seeing other men, while they were separated. She then explains that Mateen struck her in the face so that he could control her and put fear in her heart. This occurred approximately one month before Mateen’s death. As the discussion comes to an end, she reveals that R&B singer Kenny Smoov was renting a room from her and he was present when Mateen hit her. Kenny did not intervene but her son tried to.
