Wiz Khalifa Called Out for ‘Disrespectful’ Pablo Escobar Tribute
Wiz Khalifa stepped into some controversy during a recent visit to Colombia by posting pictures of what appears to be a tribute at the grave of drug lord Pablo Escobar. Wiz snapped the images while he was in Medellin, the city Escobar was shot and killed in, as he was scheduled to perform at a festival there.
One picture showed flowers at Escobar’s grave side-by-side with a caption showing the gift emoji. Like all captions with emojis, it’s kind of up for interpretation, but whatever was meant by it appears to have been deleted:
A series of pictures (one of which you can see up top) showed Wiz standing at a grave. And, according to CNN, another image showed him standing outside, posing, at a property where there was an attempt on Escobar’s life back in the 1980s.
The mayor of Medellin, Federico Gutierrez, called the Escobar tribute “disrespectful,” and said Khalifa wouldn’t be invited back. “That scoundrel, instead of bringing flowers to Pablo Escobar, he should have brought flowers to the victims of violence in this city,” Gutierrez said. “He must offer an apology to the city.”
While others don’t have the platform/clout of Gutierrez, they instead had to settle for calling out Wiz using the medium many use to call out celebrities, via social media.

Often social media outrage seems forced (that’s a freakin’ understatement, if anything). But this seemed pretty foreseeable.
