It may look cool in music videos, but make no mistake: Crippin’ain’t easy. That’s the underlying message of “#CripLivesMatter,” a new visual from AD, Sorry JayNari and prospective XXL FreshmanG Perico.

The video was produced by Patroni, who’s done a lot of work making videos for Perico. “#CripLivesMatter” finds Sorry JayNari, AD and Perico Crip-walking and waving their trademark blue bandanas in the air in an all-out Crip-fest. The song itself focuses on the perils of claiming to be a member of a Crip set and not being prepared to accept everything that usually comes along with it — police brutality and, of course, plenty of violence.

Sorry JayNari says he and G Perico had actually known each other for a while before they ever did a song together. In fact, the “Neva Die” performer was hardly even rapping when they first met.

“Me and G knew each other for a while — he wasn’t really rapping at the time, he was just kinda around the music industry,” JayNari tells XXL. He continues, “When he started dropping records, I started hearing him out of nowhere and so we got back in touch a couple years later, and we’ve been rocking ever since. Me and AD were putting all the songs together for the album and we needed something really street – something with the older west coast sound. So we made this, put out spin on it with new drums, new tempo, new energy, to reflect the modern day sound of the West Coast.”

AD and Sorry JayNari have been working in the rap game for a good while now, but they plan to make 2017 their biggest year to date. AD wants himself and his comrade to “take over the radio and the streets and the industry as a whole,” and Sorry JayNari wants the respect he feels they’re entitled to.

“The plans are to give me and AD the recognition we deserve, we’re very underrated,” he tells XXL. “I hope to push this project out to everybody that’s not just in the West Coast. I want to move the sound and take it everywhere else.”

“#CripLivesMatter” will appear on AD and Sorry JayNari’s forthcoming album, The Last of the ’80s, which features collabos with Wiz Khalifa, Tory Lanez, O.T. Genasis, Kid Ink, Eric Bellinger, G Perico and Kool John.
