Childish Gambino On Why His Parents Didn’t Want Him Rapping

Donald Glover Jr. a.k.a. COMPLEX cover star Childish Gambino stopped by Conan last night to promote his upcoming film The Martian co-starring Kristen Wiig and Matt Damon. The famed 30 Rock and Community star surprised everyone when he made a seamless transition from acting into rapping. While he didn’t think it was a big deal, his parents thought otherwise. “My mom was really kinda just like, you know ‘You have a good job! Why would you do that?.’ And also she really wanted to be meet Alec Baldwin so she was so she was like ‘Noooooo!'” Gambino said. “It was a bad decision, but I didn’t know it so it worked out great!” Watch the full clip above and the rest of the interview here.
