White House Is Investigating How the Malia Obama Pro Era Selfie Wound Up on Instagram

Earlier this week, a selfie of Malia Obama wearing a Pro Era shirt emerged on Twitter via The Masked Gorilla. After making its way around Twitter, the photo turned up on Pro Era’s Instagram and, as a rep for Joey Bada$$ told Gawker, the Brooklyn-based crew received the image from a “mutual friend” of Malia and Pro Era.

Now, Fox News is reporting that the White House is looking into how the selfie ended up on the internet in the first place, and while the world is still not 100 percent sure if the image is even real, Michelle Obama has strict social media rules for her daughters so this selfie making its way around rap blogs is something she’s probably not too happy with. Back in 2013, Michelle sat down with Barbara Walters and explained just how limited Malia and Sasha’s social media prescence is. “I still am not a big believer in Facebook for young people,” she said.

We reached out to Masked Gorilla to see how they received the photo last week, and they, too, received it from a mutual friend. Sounds like this mutual friend is really the plug. Maybe the sudden resurgence of Snapchat is to blame.
