‘The Voice’ Coaches Cover TLC’s 1994 Hit “Waterfalls”

Twenty-three years ago, game-changing R&B group TLC solidified their unshakable status in music history with the release of “Waterfalls.” The socially-conscious melody and its visual accompaniment placed a light on HIV/AIDS awareness. Fast-forward to the present, and the Organized Noize-produced track has found a new place in society following The Voice’s latest gesture.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s coaches — Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine — flexed their vocals and musicianship to present the tune to a new audience.

In a 2013 interview with Fuse, T-Boz and Chili discussed the impact that the song and video had on those who related to their message. “The video spoke for a whole epidemic,” T-Boz said. “We used to have so many patients come up and say, ‘Thanks for being our voice and getting the message out there to let people know how easily this is contracted.’”

The Voice’s twelfth season will air on Feb. 27.
